PRIVATE RETREATS

As Christians we believe in a God who wants to show a deep love for each one of us, a God who accepts us exactly as well are with our own personality and life story. A retreat is above all a time of listening to our God who is present in the everyday experiences of life and in a special way during the quiet of the time of retreat.

One benefit of retreat is that it opens up new possibilities so that we see with new eyes. Though we may return to very same situations and circumstances, the same responsibilities and relationships that we left behind to come to the place of retreat, we do so having changed inside. Coming on retreat offers an opportunity to experience God in a positive way and return home renewed, consoled and more aware of God's presence in our lives.

At Wistaston Hall we offer a wide variety of retreat experiences in order to provide as many opportunities as possible for people to have space to encounter the love of God in a personal and unique way.

We invite to explore our calendar of events and you are always welcome to contact us to discuss how we can support you on your journey of faith.

We offer 5 different types of retreats or events. Underpinning each of these is our wish to provide a space for people discover their deepest desires so that they might discover the path God is showing them.

Themed Retreats or events:

These events are most often organized around a specific theme such as recovery retreats or a particular time of year such as Advent or Lent.

Directed Retreats:

A directed retreat is an individual prayer experience.  Your prayer is enriched and guided by a spiritual guide with whom you will meet each day. Prayerful reflection with sacred scripture is the usual setting for this process. There is no preset pattern for directed retreat.

Private Retreats:

The call from God is very gentle. These retreats are open to individuals who simply need some private time out. To facilitate this experience we have dedicated the new Grange building to provide an appropriate space to come away and rest awhile.

Quiet Days:

A quiet day is a gentle introduction for newcomers to retreats. Quiet days are usually from around 10 to 4pm. You will usually be given a programme at the start of the day by the quiet day leader.

Hosted events:

During the year we make the centre and its grounds available to outside groups for their prayerful use. These events are often closed to the public and are not listed on our public schedule. For more information please visit the Groups section of the website.
